visual design in action

First published in 1961 and out of print for more than forty years, Visual Design in Action is the summation of the influential graphic design theories and principles developed by designer Ladislav Sutnar. This publication is a testament to the historical relevance of modernism and the philosophical resonance of Sutnar’s focus on the functional beauty of total clarity.

A reprint was made possible in 2006 thanks to the generous support of backers through a crowdfunding campaign and now includes a new introduction by Steven Heller and demonstrates how Sutnar’s innovative approach to graphic design prefigured the informational structures now employed in contemporary web design.
